William Henry Gates III (Bill Gates)
was born in Seattle, Washington on October 28, 1955 shortly after
9 pm in Seattle's Swedish Hospital. His dad is William H. Gates
Sr. (82) and his mom was Mary Maxwell Gates (July 5, 1929- June
9, 1994). Gates has two sisters, Kristi (Kristianne) and Libby.
His dad was lawyer and his mom was a teacher.
Gates was very energetic as a kid. He loved his rocking horse,
he would ride it for hours. Bill Gates went to Lakeside secondary
school and Harvard University. He was the youngest kid in his
class but the smartest. Gates loved to read; sometimes he would
read entire textbooks at the beginning of classes!
At age eight Gates started to read the 1960 edition of World
Book Encyclopedia.Gates was always thinking, in fact whenever
the Gates family had to go somewhere they would call little Bill
and say “what are you doing”? And little Bill would
reply “thinking”. Bill was not allowed to watch weeknight
television but playing board games was a big part of his daily
life and every day at night Bill and his family would play hours
of games- Bill was very competitive.
When Gates attended Harvard he met Paul Allen, his best friend
and they started working on the first micro computer in the world.
Gates and his friends spent as much time as they could on computers.
Gates did not graduate from Harvard, but went on to work on the
largest computer software company in the world - Microsoft Corporation.
In April, 1975, Gates and Allen founded the Microsoft Corporation
in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Gates was married on Jan. 1, 1994, to Melinda French Gates.
They have three children. Gates is an avid reader, and enjoys
playing golf and bridge. Bill Gates is now 52 years old and the
second richest man in the world but he gives billions of dollars
to charities and he is probably the best philanthropist in the
world. Right now he lives on 1835 73rd Avenue NE, Medina Wa 98039.
And that’s
Bill Gates; the best philanthropist ever.
Gates's accomplishments teach us that success can be achieved
through hard work and persistence. The best thing of all is this
lesson can be applied to anyone. Just follow your passion and
dream the undreamable!
"There will be a day, not far distant, when you will be able to conduct
business, study, explore the world and its cultures, call up any great entertainment,
make friends, attend neighborhood markets, and show pictures to distant relatives--without
leaving your desk or armchair. It will be more than an object you carry or an
appliance you purchase. It will be your passport into a new, mediated way of
life."
