The
Nat Turner Rebellion
by Ben
Nat Turner was born a slave in Southampton
County, Virginia. He believed that he was chosen by God to lead a slave
rebellion when the sun was darkened and the thunders rolled. He saw dreams
and messages from God of Black and White spirits fighting and blood flowing
through the rivers. Nat Turner died in 8131 at age 31.
Nat
Turner gathered seven slaves at first, went into the house of his owners,
and killed the family and got weapons and horses. Then he went to the
houses of other slave owners and killed them too.
On his way he found about 40 followers to help him. This was called the
Nat Turner Rebellion.
After he was finished, the
white people where scared. To make sure this didn`t happen again they
abused and tortured the black slaves, even the ones that had nothing to
do with this. The white people captured and executed Nat Turner. When
Nat Turner saw a solar eclipse he thought it was a sign from God to start
the rebellion. He thought it was ok to kill the white people because slavery
was wrong. This event helped start the Civil war. I think what he did was
wrong because he killed others but it was also right because it helped start
the Civil War. The Civil War put an end to slavery which is a good thing.
