The Starving Time at Jamestown
Hi, my topic is the starving time at Jamestown. In
1609, it was a cold harsh winter in Jamestown. John
Smith, the leader of the colonists, had gone back to England. Indians
were surrounding the fort. If the colonists egressed
the fort, the Indians would shoot them. The colonists
would do anything for food. They were eating cats, dogs,
horses, rats, and shoe leather (Ew!). One man even murdered
his wife and ate her. The settlers put him to death for that. He
must have been selfish. Only 60 out of 214 colonists
survived. Then all of the sudden, two ships arrived. Their
names were the Deliverance and the Patience. The two
ships came from Bermuda, delivering colonists that got shipwrecked
in Bermuda. Then in 1610, John Smith came back. The Indians
thought he was a magic man, so they stopped their siege.
The End.
